Olefins and aromatics

Basic chemical products are used as raw materials and chemicals in other chemical and processing industries.

At HIP-Petrohemija, ethylene and its co-products are obtained by steam cracking of primary low octane gasoline. The goal of this process is to convert larger hydrocarbon compounds into lower molecular weight compounds.

The ethylene produced at HIP-Petrohemija is polymer grade purity and can be used for polymer production without further purification (ethylene content is at least 99.9% by volume).

The produced propylene is chemical grade purity, with a propylene content of 94.5–95.5% by volume.

Methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) is an additive for unleaded motor gasoline. The addition of MTBE increases the gasoline’s octane number and improves engine performance, while the increased oxygen content allows better fuel combustion. MTBE is obtained by reacting isobutene with methanol.
