The main goals and initiatives of the company in the field of sustainability

In order to achieve the set goals, we develop activities for making business decisions that create value, meet the demands of stakeholders and customers, and put nature and future generations first as a key part of the sustainability strategy.

In HIP-Petrohemija, it is planned to achieve higher standards by introducing a more ambitious set of goals and to focus efforts on:

  • energy saving, water use, resource efficiency
  • climate change
  • human capital development
  • health and safety excellence
  • corporate social responsibility
  • business excellence and economic sustainability

In order to realize goals in this area, we focus on three key directions: implementation of ecological projects, implementation of business initiatives with a significant environmental impact and active participation in actions aimed at preserving and protecting the environment.

Energy saving, water use and efficient use of resources

The long-term goals of NIS, and therefore HIP-Petrohemija as part of the group, to reduce the negative impact on the environment, are based on the requirements of the RS and the EU, as well as examples of good practice. We ensure further commitment to environmental protection by looking at the realization of goals in relation to past results, which ensures that they are constantly monitored and reported. We share them with stakeholders in an effort to demonstrate both our transparency and our total commitment. Several projects have been initiated that contribute to the reduction of pollution and the fight against climate change, such as, for example, installation of LOW NOx burners, reuse of waste water and the implementation of projects aimed at reducing consumption and losses of energy resources continued

Climate changes

Climate change has become one of the biggest global challenges, and action to mitigate it is crucial to preserving the planet and human lives.

With these challenges in mind, the company is committed to contributing to global efforts in the fight against climate change, implementing a wide range of significant projects within its green agenda.
As a confirmation of the timely fulfillment of legal obligations in the field of climate change management and socially responsible business, the Ministry of Environmental Protection issued a Decision on the issuance of a permit for the emission of greenhouse gases for both HIP-Petrohemija and FSK, Elemir.

Development of human capital

The company strives to constantly adapt to the labor market, employee expectations and business needs. The company is dedicated to increasing employee satisfaction, their professional training, as well as programs for attracting and developing young people, new models of motivation, learning, development and fostering a culture of respect.

Excellence in health and safety

In the field of occupational safety, the company strives for the most ambitious goal – work processes without injuries and negative impacts on the environment. Golden HSE rules have been introduced in the Company, the aim of which is to establish unique principles in the performance of work activities and to establish a culture of respect for safety by raising the awareness of all employees. These rules apply to all employees, visitors and third parties at company locations

Business excellence and economic sustainability

One of the company’s priorities in the segment of social responsibility and sustainability is support for projects in which all members of society are in focus, with a special emphasis on young people, the development of the local community in all areas, as well as the improvement of environmental protection.
The company exchanges knowledge, experiences, information and best business practices with the wider business community, identifies needs and opportunities for improving business conditions and contributes to the creation of a better business climate, which results in a broader and clearer understanding of the current business environment and more efficient development of the company itself

In 2022, HIP-Petrohemija became a member of the Global Agreement Network Serbia, the world’s largest voluntary initiative for sustainable development and socially responsible business coordinated by the most important international organization today.

Since then, the Group submits annual progress reports in the field of sustainable development related to the four pillars of the Global Compact: human rights, labor standards, environmental protection and anti-corruption policy.

By becoming part of this global initiative, HIP-Petrohemija has the opportunity to exchange best practices with similar companies around the world, learn from leaders in the field of sustainability, and actively participate in creating positive changes at the local and global level.
