HIP-Petrohemija is a significant company of the chemical industry of Southeast Europe with a business tradition of 50 years. The petrochemical industry is within one of the most energy-intensive sectors. It is a significant consumer of energy and natural resources and consequently has a large impact on GHG emissions into the air.
All this had influence on the intensive development of the process of improving the energy efficiency of HIP-Petrohemija in the last 10 years, with the aim of optimal energy consumption, sustainable development, preservation of natural resources and mitigation of climate change. Energy efficiency is crucial for the company because significant financial and economic benefits are achieved through the reduction and rationalization of the consumption of energy resources.
In addition to the technological development of the company, HIP-Petrohemija put significant resources and knowledge in the field of energy use and consumption in the last period. Continuous improvement of energy performance is one of our company’s strategic goals. The company declares its commitment to improving energy efficiency through the Energy Efficiency Policy / Energy Policy.
HIP-Petrohemija applies energy management system in accordance with the standard that was certified since 2015. The system approach of energy management implies continuous dealing with energy in all structures of the company whose goal is rational energy consumption. The achievement of investment, operational and technical, and business improvements led to the improvement of energy efficiency of the plant. The development of energy management brought significant financial savings and business improvement to HIP-Petrohemija.
As a significant consumer of energy resources, HIP-Petrohemija is obliged to comply with the Energy Management System (EMS) of the Republic of Serbia, as one of the most important consumers of energy in the Republic of Serbia, with two of its own locations – in Pančevo and Elemir. HIP-Petrohemija complies with all legal requirements in the field of energy and energy efficiency. The importance of energy efficiency is emphasized through the Energy Development Strategy of the Republic of Serbia by 2040 with projections by 2050, which defines energy efficiency as one of the priority goals for achieving energy security and sustainable energy supply.
The Energy Efficiency Program was approved, and it regulates the energy efficiency improvement plan in the period of three years. The purpose of this Program is to set goals and tasks of the company from the aspect of energy efficiency management, analyse key performance indicators in the last period, develop the strategy for achieving the selected goals and establish an approach for continuous improvement of energy management. The development map of this Program enables control and continuous improvement of the system and energy performances.
